Circle of Life..

I was working an easygoing shift with colleagues, a chest pain here, a sprained ankle there.. nothing too overwhelming.. when I as suddenly called to the "psych room" the psych room is a padded walls room where patients with potential self harm can stay in till they are officially seen and assessed.

There was a lady obviously upset and crying.. I walked in and said my usual hellos and how can I help yous when she hugged me tightly and screamed in my ear: "JOHN IS GONE"

John (not his real name) was her husband- he just passed away and she was grieving, her sons brought her to ED be consoled and perhaps get some IV medications to help calm down..

She calmed down after the administration of a strong sedative and I left..

only to be called to an imminent delivery of a baby - uncommon, but sometimes a mum can deliver in ED if it takes her too long to go to the delivery suite- I helped as much as I can.. honestly, mum did all the pushing and work- I just sat there... and a new baby boy arrived! healthy and crying! always a reason to celebrate in ED... mum wanted to know the gender of the baby and I said a boy! congratulations! She was so joyous and yelled "John has finally arrived" !!!

This young baby boy was the first after 3 girls!

well, John.. welcome to this world young man

hope you like it here...
